The Estate of Ernie Barnes owns the international copyright to all artwork created by Ernie Barnes, (regardless of who may own any specific physical work of art), and his artwork may not be reproduced in any way without the Estate’s express written permission.
Permission requests for rights and reproduction should be sent with details about the proposed use to luz@erniebarnes.com. Please allow 3-5 business days for a response. -

The Estate established the Ernie Barnes Catalogue Raisonne’ Project, which aims to document all artworks created by Ernie Barnes for an authoritative, comprehensive record of his artistic output, annotated with input and insight from the artist and others.
We invite owners of works believed to be by Ernie Barnes to complete a catalogue raisonné submission form, available as a downloadable PDF here. Submit completed forms to and any photographs to luz@erniebarnes.com. Please allow 3-5 business days for a response. -

Currently, the Estate has not authorized any Ernie Barnes image for use on any clothing, shoes, puzzles, coffee mugs, candles or other merchandise.
Also, the Estate does not sell reproductions on canvas or those offered in multiple sizes, where you can choose the size of the reproductions. They’re all counterfeit.

In the early 1970s, Ernie Barnes was the first African American artist to release reproductions of his artwork for the general public to enjoy at affordable prices.
Barnes posters have his artwork, along with written captions. Prints are single-image reproductions that are unlimited in quantity. Signed limited editions are no more than 750 in quantity, each signed in pencil and numbered by Barnes. The Estate is now releasing estate-stamped limited editions with no more than 100 in each edition.
